The British Rail Class 458 Juniper is an electric multiple-unit manufactured by Alstom, in use on Stepford Connect. These trains are formed of 4 (/0) or 5 (/5) coaches, and cost 1,500 points.

On 1 August 2019, on the Discord server by Product Developer yrrebRBLX, as well as a sneak peek on X (then called Twitter) (@yrreb_xela), it was revealed how the 458/0 would look like.
On 6 August 2019, the train was made next generation, and showed off with the released Class 458/5 in the SCR Official Discord's #sneak-peeks channel.
On 14 August 2019, the 458/0 was released as part of Patch 22 with a server reboot at 23:00 BST. Those who have bought the /5 variant get the /0 variant unlocked with no extra cost.
On 23 April 2022, Managing Director Charlie_RBX published a sneak peek of an NGv3 upgrade to the /5 variant. The next day, Charlie_RBX published another sneak peek featuring both variants upgraded.
On 25 April 2022, the train was upgraded to NGv3 as part of the V1.8.4 update.
Trivia[]
- Former Product Developer yrrebRBLX developed a higher quality interior for the /5 variant, but it was deemed too laggy and brought down to a standard interior.
- These are the first and only Juniper units in SCR.
- In V1.3.18, the /5 variant was displayed at Bodin TrainCare, along with the Class 707 and the Class 360, but it was released later than them.
- The /5 variant has the lowest max speed in the game, along with the Class 143 and the Class 508, at 75 MPH.
- The original models for both variants were created specifically for this game by Houghton Foundry.
- The Class 458/0's original livery was similar to the Class 158's in that the ends were colored blue; however, they were not identical.
- This is the only train in SCR where the different variants of the train have different maximum speeds.
- In V1.7.1, the horns for both variants have been changed. It previously shared its horn with the Class 350.
- As of V1.7.1, this is the only train in the entire network that has all sounds exclusive to itself, as every other train shares at least one of its sounds with at least one other train.
- When driving the /0 variant, even though stopping perfectly and not overshooting, the driver would only get 4 points and not 5. This bug was fixed in V1.4.6.
- If each variant is considered as a separate train, the Class 458/0 is one of the three trains in SCR that has become defunct in reality, as all of them had been converted into 458/5s by Wabtec Rail in 2016, along with the Class 332, Class 143 and the Class 379.
- This train, especially the /0 variant, is very unfavorable for most players due to its high-pitched sounds.
- Some players call this train the 'Chalkboard train', after its unfavourable sounds.
- Many people previously also disliked this train as its NGv1 model was deemed unattractive.
- Despite the upgrade to mesh, the train remains uninterested by passengers and drivers alike.
- This train currently has the longest doors closing chime of all the trains, with the audio lasting into the departure of the train.
- The Class 458 has a third rail shoe on every single carriage ingame, which is not present in real life.
- Since the Class 465's removal in V1.10.12, this train is speculated to possibly be removed due to it being third rail only both in real life and in-game, which was the reason given for the removal. This also affects the Class 444 and Class 508.
- In real life, the Class 458/0 units have the ability to be converted to 25kV overhead, meaning that the train could be converted to fit the game's direction of not implementing third rail.
- If this train was removed, along with the Class 444, they would be the only meshed trains to be removed from the game.
