The term 'Sneak peek' is often used to refer to images that the Developers release on social media platforms to tease upcoming updates and/or features. Sneak peeks often only contain a small amount of information (such as featuring only a small section of a train or intentionally hiding station signs), but more often than not, the community will manage to identify a train or station by using visual hints (i.e. the looks of a train or the surroundings around the station). However, sometimes it is obvious what the sneak peek is showing with information such as station signs/names being left in intentionally. In some other cases, the station signs/names can be blurry or obstructed due to distance or structures/trees blocking it and can make it hard to read.
Not all upgrades/features are sneak peeked before an update, an example being the West Benton and Ashlan Park overhaul in Version 1.9.1.

Trivia
- The term "#SneakPeekSundays" is a label used for sneak peeks that are released as part of a chain of sneak peeks that are released every week. Sneak Peek Sundays have been used to showcase multiple new updates/features in a fairly quick succession, with the first usages on the V1.8 sneak peeks.
- When Leighton West was sneak-peeked, many users believed the station's name was going to be "Wyvern West" or similar due to the blurriness of the sneak peek in a zoomed-in state.
- When the Eden Quay upgrade was sneak-peeked, many players thought it was Ashlan Park or James Street because there was no visible water (which Eden Quay was surrounded by and built on), but it was ultimately Eden Quay.
- Some sneak peeks were uploaded into the form of a video, the most notable one of these being the "Change is coming..." video released by Innovations Director BanTech. The aforementioned video showcased the upcoming Guard role and the new Stepford Connect livery, all part of the V1.5 update.
- Similarly, content creators often make videos surrounding sneak peeks, primarily reviewing the previewed content. Often times, such videos are uploaded mere minutes after the sneak peek's release. This has received some criticism as a way of 'view-farming', as some people in the community believe these creators put little to no effort into the video production.
