In Stepford County Railway, there are special terms used while playing.

SPAD[]

Main article: SPAD

A SPAD (abbreviated from Signal Passed At Danger) refers to the situation that a train passes through a red signal, which is highly discouraged and against the rules at Stepford County Railway. Someone committing a SPAD is called a SPADer and the word that people use to talk about it is SPADing.

AWS[]

Main article: Automatic Warning System

The Automatic Warning System, abbreviated to AWS, is a system that was originally designed to reduce the probability of a SPAD after an APT introduction was decided against. When a train passes over an AWS sensor, either a bell/electronic ping or audible beep is played in the cab alerting the driver of the signal aspect ahead. On a decrease in line speed of more than ⅓, AWS is legally required to be fitted at a signal. SCR has replicated this by permanently setting some signals to Caution (single yellow) or Danger (red). There is a speed limit of 45 mph upon passing a single yellow (Caution) signal.

PIS Board[]

Main article: Passenger Information Screens

Passenger Information Screens or PIS are information screens installed on most trains in SCR, usually located in the middle to the end of the coach. These screens provides visual information to passengers onboard about the train's destination, next stop and other information.

CIS Board[]

Main article: CIS Board

CIS Boards (short for Customer Information System Boards) are screens placed around the platforms of stations, that display information of the trains that will call at that station. They usually show the upcoming stations and the lateness of the train. If no trains are nearby, the screen will either show no information or display "Welcome to (Station Name)". Also, the screen will tell the user if the train approaching will skip the station. The CIS Boards can be in different styles in each station. CIS boards will be blank until a train is nearby and a platform is assigned.

Headcode[]

Main article: Headcode

Headcodes are a very important aspect of Stepford County Railway. A headcode is composed of four characters, three of them numerical and one alphabetical. The purpose of headcodes are to identify each train with a unique code and using them to smooth out communications between drivers, Dispatchers, Guards and Signallers. Headcodes were introduced in V1.0 which made it easier to communicate.

Trespassing[]

Main article: Trespassing

In SCR, trespassing refers to the act of intentionally entering restricted railway property without permission. One case of trespassing will usually just result in the player being despawned, but repeated offences or serious cases (e.g. trespassing using exploits) can lead to kicks, demotions, and eventually in-game bans if being caught or reported.

Rail Operations Centre/Signal boxes[]

A Rail Operations Centre, ROC for short, is a room inside a building used by Signallers to signal. There are two Rail Operations Centres in SCR; one at Stepford Central and the other at Llyn-by-the-Sea.

Signal Boxes are standalone buildings also used by Signallers to signal, but smaller than ROC in terms of size. There are two signal boxes in SCR; one at Beaulieu Park and the other at Benton. There was also a third signal box in Starryloch, but it has been disused and the signalling desk has been relocated to the Llyn-by-the-Sea Rail Operations Centre since V1.7.2.
