This page is about current announcements. For former announcements, see Former Announcements.

Announcements are a feature in SCR. They can be can be heard on all trains and stations, and classified as such.

Station announcements are played in each station to inform passengers of upcoming trains and cancellations, while train announcements are played onboard to inform passengers the train's destination, next stop and other information.

Station Announcements[]

Since Version 1.8, station announcements are voiced by Emma Hignett[1]. Prior to Version 1.8, the station announcements were performed by a TTS voice[2].

All station announcements follow the following format: platform -> departure time -> operator -> destination -> all stops -> train length (-> First Class, if offered on the train).

Through Service[]

The standard through service announcement differs depending on the operator.

For services with more than one stop before the terminus, the announcement will follow the format:

"Platform (number), for the, (HH / Midnight), (MM / Hundred / (Nothing when it is 00:00)), Stepford Connect/Waterline service to: (destination). Calling at (all midway stations calling at after the current stop), and, (destination). This train is formed of (number) coaches."

If the train is a Stepford Express train with midway stops at Benton or Morganstown, the announcement follows this format:

"Platform (number), for the, (HH / Midnight), (MM / Hundred / (Nothing when it is 00:00)), Stepford Express service to: (destination) via (Benton / Morganstown). Calling at (all midway stations calling at after the current stop), and, (destination). This train is formed of (number) coaches. First class is located at the (front/rear) of the train."

On AirLink and Stepford Express services, the location of first class is additionally added to the end of the announcement.

Last stop before terminus[]

At the last stop before the terminus of the train, the following format will always be used:

"Platform (number), for the, (HH / Midnight), (MM / Hundred / (Nothing when it is 00:00)), Stepford Connect/Waterline/AirLink/Stepford Express service to: (destination). Calling at, (destination), only. This train is formed of (number) coaches."

Examples[]

A Stepford Connect service calling at Edgemead and Leighton West[source 1]
An AirLink service calling at Stepford Airport Central only[source 2]

Starting Service[]

If the train starts at the station that the announcement is played at, the following formats will be used.

"The train now standing at, platform (number), is the, (HH / Midnight), (MM / Hundred / (Nothing when it is 00:00)), AirLink/Stepford Express service to: (destination). Calling at (all midway stations calling at after the current stop), and, (destination). This train is formed of (number) coaches."

For Stepford Express services with midway stops at Benton or Morganstown, the format changes to:

"The train now standing at, platform (number), is the, (HH / Midnight), (MM / Hundred / (Nothing when it is 00:00)), Stepford Express service to: (destination) via (Benton / Morganstown). Calling at (all midway stations calling at after the current stop), and, (destination). This train is formed of (number) coaches."

Services without intermidate stops use the following format:

"The train now standing at, platform (number), is the, (HH / Midnight), (MM / Hundred / (Nothing when it is 00:00)), Stepford Connect/Waterline service to: (destination). Calling at, (destination), only. This train is formed of (number) coaches."

On AirLink and Stepford Express, the location of first class is additionally added to the end of the announcement.

Example[]

A Stepford Express service to Westwyvern via Morganstown[source 3]

Terminating Service[]

The following format is used for all services.

"The train now approaching, Platform (number), terminates here. This train is the service from: (station it started service at)."

If the train directly comes from a depot, the announcement will be shortened to the first sentence only.

Example[]

A Waterline service terminating at Greenslade from Whitney Green[source 4]

Scheduled to pass[]

If a train is scheduled to pass a station, the following announcement will play, regardless of the operator.

"The train now approaching, Platform (number), does not stop here. Please stand back from the platform edge."

Example[]

A train passing Platform 3[source 5]

Cancellation[]

Currently, there is only one type of cancellation message, although an expansion to the cancellation messages is planned.

If a driver despawns, the following announcement is played at stations the train will be scheduled to call at (or also at the current station if the train was despawned during loading):

"Your attention please! The, (HH / Midnight), (MM / Hundred / (Nothing when it is 00:00)), Stepford Connect/Waterline/AirLink/Stepford Express service to: (destination), has been cancelled. This is due to, a member of the train crew being unavailable."

Some people have found more cancellation messages in the asset list of the game, saying "An operational incident", this is likely part of the more cancellation announcements on the roadmap or could also be a delay message.[citation needed]

Example[]

An AirLink service to Leighton Stepford Road being cancelled.[source 6]

Short platform (on some long trains)[]

If a train is too long for the platform for at least one station, the following announcement will play.

"Due to a short platform, passengers for [short platform stations], should travel in the front [amount] coaches."

Examples[]

A Waterline train being too long for Morganstown Docks and Whitney Green (Front 3 coaches)[source 7]
A Stepford Connect train being too long for Hemdon Park, New Harrow and Elsemere Pond (Front 4 coaches)[source 8]
A Stepford Connect train being too long for Beaulieu Park (Front 5 coaches)[source 9]

Train Announcements[]

These announcements are played on trains and are voiced by Janine Cooper-Marshall[3] on Stepford Connect, Faye Dicker[4] on Waterline, and Justine Harris[5] on AirLink and Stepford Express.

Until Version 1.6.2, these were done by a TTS voice.[6] From Version 1.6.2 to Version 1.8, Janine Cooper-Marshall announced for all operators.

As of Version 1.8, Janine Cooper-Marshall was retained for Stepford Connect only, and 2 other announcers have been deployed on other operators. All voices have been modified, for realism. In addition, the announcements now say "change here for services to [list of station(s)]" at certain stations.

Next station announcement[]

After a train has left a station, the following announcement will play:

"Stepford Connect: Welcome onboard this Stepford Connect service to: (destination). We will be calling at: (all midway stations calling at after the previous stop) and (destination). The next station is: (station)."
"Waterline: Welcome onboard this Waterline service to: (destination); calling at: (all midway stations calling at after the previous stop) and (destination). The next station is: (station)."
"AirLink and Stepford Express: Welcome onboard this AirLink/Stepford Express service to: (destination). We will call at: (all midway stations calling at after the previous stop) and (destination). The next station will be: (station)."

The midway station readout will not play if a major station is directly before the terminus or after leaving non-major stations.

If there is a short distance between the stop that was just left and the next stop, the announcement will be shortened to:

"Welcome onboard this (Stepford Connect/Waterline/Stepford Express) service to: (destination)."

If the distance between two stops is less than 0.2 miles, the following format is used instead:

"Welcome onboard this (Stepford Connect/Waterline/AirLink/Stepford Express) service to: (destination). We will shortly be arriving at: (station)."

Should the player miss a station, for the next station the announcer will only say: "The next station (is/will be): (station)", without announcing the destination of the train.

Examples[]

A Stepford Connect service to Stepford Airport Central[source 10]
A Waterline service to James Street[source 11]
An AirLink service to Airport Terminal 3[source 12]
A Stepford Express service to Llyn-by-the-Sea[source 13]

Arriving announcements[]

At 0.19 miles from a station, the following announcement is played:

"We will shortly be arriving at: (station). (Change here for services/trains to: (termini for other services).) Please mind the gap between the train and the platform."

If the train terminates at the next stop, the announcement will use the following format instead:

"We will shortly be arriving at: (station). (Change here for services/trains to: (termini for other services).) Please mind the gap between the train and the platform. This train terminates here. All change please!"

This announcement will not be played when a train is coming directly from a depot or siding, or when the next station is less than 0.35 miles from the current station.

Short platform announcements[]

At some stations, if the driver is driving a train longer than the platform, after the 0.19-miles-from-the-station announcement, the announcer will say:

"Due to a short platform, the doors in the rear coach(es) will not open at this station. Please move forward to leave the train."

This happens at Morganstown Docks and Whitney Green when driving a four-car train, at Hemdon Park, Woodhead Lane, New Harrow, Elsemere Pond, East Berrily and Eden Quay when driving a five-car or six-car train, and at Beaulieu Park when driving a six-car train.

A Stepford Express service approaching Leighton City[source 18]

Loading at a station[]

When doors have opened, the following announcement is played:

Stepford Connect and Waterline: This is: (station). This train is for: (destination). The next station is (next station).
AirLink and Stepford Express: This is: (station). This train is for: (destination). The next station will be: (next station).

When unloading at a terminus, the announcement changes to:

"This is: (station). This train terminates here. All change please! Thank you for travelling with us today!"

Trivia[]

  • Despite trains already having announcements, some players still announce the stops for their train route in the chat to get more passengers or as part of their roleplay. However, sometimes this may annoy a small number of other players for "spamming the chat".
  • Although new in-train announcements were already added in V1.6.2, the station text-to-speech voices were retained until V1.8, when they were replaced by Emma Hignett, who also voices multiple services on Transport for London, for example as voicing the Elizabeth Line, London Overground and London Bus announcements.
  • Quite a number of players disliked the new onboard announcements in V1.6.2, because they think the announcer reads a bit unnatural. However it is highly unlikely TTS announcements will return, as the game starts to incorporate realistic features.
    • New physical immersive station speakers were also added, for realism and increased quality.
  • Before V1.7.1, the "We will shortly be arriving at" announcement would still be played even the train was coming directly from a depot or siding to a station. Some players considered that being unrealistic as the train was supposed to be an empty coach, and no passenger announcements would be played on a not in service train in reality.
  • In V1.8, the onboard announcements were put through a filter to give them a "tinny" sound, like they are coming out of the kind of speakers common to British trains.
    • This sounds unrealistic on newer trains with better speaker quality in real life.
  • Janine Cooper-Marshall onboard Stepford Connect is the announcer on-board GWR.
  • Justine Harris onboard AirLink and Stepford Express is the announcer on-board LNER Azuma services.
  • Faye Dicker onboard Waterline was the former announcer for GWR, replaced by Janine Cooper-Marshall. She also voiced the trainings in the 'Great Western Express' route of Train Sim World.
  • When former Managing Director Charlie_RBX uploaded the new announcement for Bodin on the 24th of June 2020, his account was temporarily banned because a moderator had mistaken the announcement as an inappropriate username. Charlie_RBX was unbanned shortly after.
  • AirLink is the only operator in the game to have no stations where the short platform announcement is played. Despite this, the on-board announcement is not unused as it plays on Stepford Express trains arriving at Eden Quay.
